About The Artwork

The Surge was President Obama's attempt to do something about the war in Afghanistan. Obama was elected because people wanted him to get out of the two wars started by President George W. Bush. These wars are one of the main reasons we are being buried by a mountain of debt today. Going into Afghanistan to root out Al Qaeda and their sponsor the Taliban, was agreed upon by all as the proper response to 9-11. However once accomplished the prudent thing would have been to declare victory and go home. Instead the Neo-Cons, headed by Vice President Cheney, decided Nation Building was in order. The last person to conquer Afghanistan was Alexander the Great in 330 BCE, and even he had problems with the warring populace. The British Empire (twice) and The Soviet Empire (once), both failed miserably to hold the Afghans in check. So why did we think it would be any different for the U. S.? Who knows, except maybe Generals like to fight wars because it's the fastest way to get a promotion. And they can sound very level headed when explaining their supposed good reasons to continue fighting a war, to a President. Which also gets to the heart of the matter; which is why do we want this Godforsaken country in the first place? We no longer need it as a trade route, or a buffer, or are in any way understandable, helping the people of Afghanistan, or for any of the other myriad reasons people in the past have wanted to control Afghanistan. Nonetheless, instead of getting out (which is what most people in the U.S. wanted) the Surge added 30 thousand troops to those already there. It did accomplish three things. It caused the resurgence of the Taliban. It caused the resurgence of Opium production (which is only getting worse) in areas where it had been eliminated. And it cost Americans the lives of its' young men and billions of dollars which would better have been spent elsewhere. And of course, we are still there today and are only a few years short of the amount of time we spent (again for no good reason) in Vietnam. Surreallascapes: Each Collage is made up of at least 40 different pictures arranged in a landscape where the physical world is real, but the essence is of an alternate dimension. Or a Jigsaw puzzle where the pieces are made to fit together in a dreamlike manner. This will be offered as a signed and numbered print, limited to an edition of 25. Made from 100% rag paper, the 18" X 25" prints include a one-inch border.
