About The Artwork

I often look at both Midevil and Renascence Art for inspiration. I have had an affinity for Renaissance Art ever since a summer study program took me to Italy for a summer when I was sixteen years old. The program had us based in Florence with day trips out and about the Tuscan towns and villages. I came upon some beautiful magazine reproductions of Renaissance Art. While reading through some old issues of FMR, an exquisite Art magazine that had a brief run in the eighties, was published by Franco Maria Ricci in Italy. I was looking for inspiration for a call, put out by the artist guild im a member of "The New Renaissance," put out by an Art Guild that I am a member of. I started experimenting with a collage and used a color reproduction of Fifthteenth Century Art by an unknown painter of the period, which showed Christ's disciples averting their eyes before God, I assumed. The outcome of this inspiration was the work titled Before the Devine.

Marc VanDermeer who goes by the online nom de guerre, VanDi, is a mixed media digital artist from the USA. A traditional abstract artist started painting at the age of ten. He was initially taught by his artist/sculpture and poet mother, Carol Levy Vandermeir. His formal art education began at the Philadelphia College of Art (UArts) in 1971, graduating with a degree in film in 1976. He followed with continued part-time education at SVA, Parsons, and Silvermine School of Art. Working across a pastiche of artistic genres and style in a creative mélange of thought-provoking fantasy and surreal imagery. His body of work expresses his flirtation with photography, painting, and digital media. He is crossing modern expressionism, street art, collage, classicism, landscape painting, pop art, minimalism in an artistic mash-up of award-winning art. VanDi explains, “Legacy for me is paramount; I see myself as carving that legacy each time I produce something new.” When asked to define his style or influences, Marc replies It’s challenging to describe my current style, which is dictated by both anatomical observation and mood. Choosing sometimes to express his thoughts and philosophy on canvas or the digital screen. Producing colorful mood evoking art or graphics in black & white." The artist, a lover of classic art and new NFT media, has been in over twenty group and virtual shows in the past twelve months alone. “Art is both an addiction and cathartic part of my daily day.” Marc has no current representation; his physical work is available on Saatchi Art and his website. His NFT work may be seen or purchased on Bitski., Opensea, Kalamint, and Async Art. All links: http://marcvandermeer.net/bio https://linktr.ee/mvd953
