Heavy is the Head That Wears The Crown borrows its title from Shakespeare, a metaphor often used to talk about the burden and difficulties of being a leader. The composition of 48 imaginary X-Rayed Coronation crowns (St. Edwards Crown) arranged in a rainbow gradient, is an homage to the legacy of HM Elizabeth II as well as her cultural influence during 70 years of reign, and a celebration of continuity with Charles III. As with all of Romano’s work, the use of colours and symbols in this piece are aimed to approach the matter (in this case leadership) with values that above all promote diversity and inclusion. This piece is ready to hang. The photographic C-type (AKA Lambda print) is sandwiched between a base of alu-dibond and a 4 mm glossy perspex. The perspex enhanced the colours and gives a contemporary and sleek look to the piece. This piece is made to order so please allow 10 working days before shipping is possible

I am Ernesto, an Italian artist living and working in London. I use x-rays of my body for my work, which I transform with bold colours and often embellish with gold leaf, glitter, spray paint or Swarovski crystals. All my work is very much colourful and shiny. I often use symbols like crowns (including crown of thorns-religious symbols) and jewels that I superimpose to the x-rays, and then hand embellish them adding sparkle. Those symbols tend do identify a certain status or social position. On the other hand the x-rays instead are free from any social connotation, any prejudice or stereotype and often free form gender and ambiguous and eventually the most judgemental free angle from which a person can be looked at. These X-rayed self portraits convey a message of equality and universal values, of inclusion and diversity. I have exhibited nationally in UK and internationally and my work is collected worldwide.
