This series of drawings was inspired by conversations I had with a friend who's a research scientist at the Natural History Museum in London. We were considering some of the circumstances which led to different species' particular adaptations. Adaptation may be seen initially as a quirk, a deviation from the norm, but in the long-term it becomes apparent that it is a gift of nature - a continual, dynamic shaping through which we adjust to environmental change. Through this gift we are opened up to the wider possibilities of not only continued existence, but also fundamental transformation. My reflections in this series seek to explore that dynamic between the immediate, subtle change and the diverse potentialities which it creates.
