The Portraits Drew is working on a collection of graphite Portraits of Internationally known Film Stars, Rock Royalty, Sporting Heroes and Icons. The Portraits tell the story of the subjects life through symbols and imagery and are an injection of Drew's own personality and the subconscious thoughts, emotions and feelings in his mind at the time he creates each Portrait. Two simultaneous relationships within the Portraits exist: from a distance the viewer sees only the Celebrity; but when closer to the Portrait the "symagery" within the large scale faces comes to the fore. Marilyn Monroe conjures love in equal portions with an ethereal 'lotus' hummingbirds and butterflies evolving within her face... The solidly contented spirit in the Dalai Lama is depicted as flying uncharted on the wing of a giant bald eagle... Angelina Jolie's wild side is evoked by the gorilla in her hair and lion on her forehead whilst the swan and her cygnets on her cheek and remind us of her maternal instincts. Truly bewitching, you need to see them in their larger form to understand and truly appreciate them.
