About The Artwork

Description: David Hoag's claim to fame is that he was allegedly born without a chin. A native of Canandaigua, New York, Hoag's unusual condition earned him a brief career in the sideshow where one presumes he performed tasks that those of us with intact mandibles take for granted - chewing, for instance. Was this Chinless Wonder a popular draw? I cannot really say as there isn't much information to be found about David Hoag.My tribute to this dubiously entertaining performer is based on one of Hoag's pitchcards and two mid-fifteenth century portraits of Lionello d'Este, Marquis of Ferrara. Medium: ink drawing on paperYear Created: 2004

Born 1972 (Hazleton, Pennsylvania, United States)

I now live and work in Philadelphia.

I am known primarily as a draughtsman and printmaker, and a rather infrequent painter. My most recent artistic output has concentrated on pen and ink drawings, woodcuts and photography.

My work is largely figurative and often takes inspiration from folklore, art history, and human pathology - particulary the sort of anomalies once display in circus sideshows.
