What was Alexander’s Greatness built from? The marble statues of his parents cast long shadows in the melancholy blue circle of his childhood. His mother, Queen Olympia, scrutinizes the faceless body she has given birth to with hopes of turning into a legendary figure that would avenge the humiliations King Philip of Macedonia subjected her to. Death lies between the young lion Alexander and his father’s crown. His early proofs of courage in taming the wild horse Bucephalas begin to construct the glorious warrior image his military career capitalized on. The philosophical lessons of his teacher, Aristotle, shaped his vision of a world united under one cultural and political system that the classical antiquity propaganda bust looks on to, turning its back to the voice of his marching armies. At the time of his death in 323 BC, Alexander’s empire stretched from the Mediterranean to the North of India, with most territories conquered during his 13 years reign of intense military campaigns.
