About The Artwork

It is the belief of this artist that drawings occupy a fundamental space in visual art and thus a significant portion of my portfolio is dedicated to that. The figure, as subject matter, is requisite. The art nude is the core of academic discipline and the ultimate expression of form. Many times I create art simply by putting charcoal to paper, however in some recent works, I pursue additional complexity by way of transparent oil washes. It might be said that this then qualifies as mixed media work but I still refer to the work as a drawing because that is the dominant activity and the oil washes only serve to highlight that fact. This drawing is on Khadi paper, an artistic achievement in and of itself. Created by hand in India from recycled t-shirts, each sheet of Khadi paper has a distinct character that contributes to the final piece of art. Once sized and toned, the paper is ready for the drawing, which is brushed on with a powdered charcoal and also sketched with bâtons. Once completed, the drawing is sealed with a fixative and then loosely scumbled with transparent oils to achieve the desired effect. I believe it is best displayed floated in a custom frame. My intention here is to blend classical notions of beauty with contemporary perspectives. Hope you enjoy it.

American artist, William Hudson Temples, grew up drawing pictures and cartoons. His early inspirations were Maurice Sendak, Charles Schultz, and Shel Silverstein. Temples also holds a Master's Degree in Health Science from the University of North Carolina. Temples has worked as a graphic designer, illustrator, and cartoonist. His comic strip, Dumbbells, was published across North America in the Canadian Magazine, Razor. Currently, Temples is occupied in the field of education and fine art. He divides his time between North and South America, and much of his artwork reflects the cultural influences of his wife's native country, Argentina.
