About The Artwork

Description: 'Supper' Medium : Wax pigment on paper Year created : 2014 Two tables were put end to end on a large sheet of paper, then around them were placed 13 stools. After supper was taken and the guests had gone, the stools and table legs were drawn around, leaving their final positions marked on the paper. A black wax was then rubbed onto the paper around the spaces left by the stools and tables revealing the textural relief of the floor below. This was an attempt to make visible a moment that had passed.

www.rakerman.co.uk Born London 1949.Traveled, collected, and used drawings, to record positions, and rearranged objects in urban and world landscape locations from 1972-2004.Began to develop the aesthetic and conceptual premise that became The Visible and Invisible Projects, in 1990. Opened first London studio 1991. Produced "Facing North", a series of glue paintings, and retrieved 4 out of the original 10 paintings left at their north facing sites a year later from Cornwall, Surrey, Harrow-on-the-Hill and Ealing, the other 6 having been taken, lost or decomposed.Closed studio in 1994, and until 2004 undertook the tasks, journeys and works that became the Visible and Invisible Projects. When they began, the Invisible Projects were only concerned with personal experiences. Many of them could only be witnessed during the actual act of doing a particular task, and as there was often nothing to see, only rakerman knew when he had achieved the objective he had assigned himself. This objective evolved into the making of a work of Art that might not be possible to see, but nevertheless existed. However, as these works became more complex, it was noticeable that some of them were ceasing to be strictly invisible, and were actually producing a lot of extremely visible items such as notebooks, drawings, prints, sculpture, film, and photographs. These works have become, unsurprisingly, the Visible Projects and are made up of some 35 volumes of drawings, sculpture, photographs and other related works. These also include attempts at making visible things you can't see, for example the invisible acid in acid rain, or the existence of drawings made by car-parks.Opened second London studio 2001. Began the division of the Projects into Drawing, Sculpture, Obscuras and Invisibles.
