About The Artwork

we cut down a tree! a plum. an act that seems innocuous and familiar when you live in the countryside.. and yet, today more than ever cutting down a tree is an act that takes on a particular meaning in the world where our whole environment is rocking, drifting because of our daily actions. This design is inspired by the prunus stump which, once cut, reveals a color and shapes conducive to pareidolia. The strain, deliberately ambiguous title in English (it's the same word in French) because isolated, this stump strongly resembles a cell. A cell, that's how we should think of ourselves, we humans, a simple cell in a large organism that we destroy without even understanding it. Drawing on cardboard from 2020 : original size : 24,3 x 30, 3 cm. Passe-partout frame : 20 x 29 cm Sell with Hovsta frame in melamine and plexiglass to protect the drawing.

ALIVE. A thread as conductive as its ending is sure. Living is what binds us: proteins, cells, animals, microscopic or infinitely gigantic plants. From earth, water or air we are alive until we are no more. SC, these are the initials of Sylvie Cantot, her signature. It is intended to be discreet, like our time on Earth should be. Claiming to be more creative than artistic, SC likes to use multiple mediums to express her ideas and convictions. Trained from her earliest childhood in the meticulous gaze and observation of Nature by her entomologist father, she also learned drawing and oil painting alongside him. After her studies in plastic arts and fine arts, she left the art world to pursue a career as a computer graphic designer. At the same time, she continued to paint and sold her works to those around her. It is in Tahiti that she will hold 3 group exhibitions for a charity because for her, art or creations should not only serve artists but be the object of greater causes. Since 2020, after a one-year training in ceramics, SC has now devoted itself entirely to creation: drawings, acrylics, resins and ceramics but also a garden that aims to be as resilient and as close to Nature as possible. Hands in the Earth: from the red clay of the garden to the porcelain, from the just flowers blooming to the petals dried in the resin, from the changing sky to the autopareidolia, from the songs of birds to the tranquility of the workshop, from the life teeming with the minutiae of details, Nature never leaves SC's creations.
