The so-called “Burlington House Cartoon”, a representation of The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne and Saint John the Baptist, is a drawing by Leonardo. It measures 141.5 cm by 104 cm and is in the National Gallery in London. The first large-scale drawing I make is a copy of this National Gallery masterpiece. I have been developing a relationship with this work since the 1980s when I lived there and it has influenced me a lot in my development with drawing as an entirely autonomous artform.
