About The Artwork

This work explores the virtual reality of spiritual transformation. The image is a Hindu temple in the Kathmandu Valley that I have drawn on location many times. This tapestry-style drawing on Mexcan bark paper shows a Saddhu (holyman), on his iPad searching for the "answers." Meanwhile, his student, who is paying no attention to him, is texting and wearing a t-shirt with the print, "I'm a Beleiber." Just above the doorway is a QR code that when scanned with your phone, will take you to a two minute video that takes you inside the doorway. Some of the textural patterns of the bark make up the drawing of the tree. The background of "1's" and "0's" are binary code for about 1/2 the names of God that begin with the letter "A." Seven layered pages represent the archetypal number of completion.
