About The Artwork

This series is comprised of 20 panels displayed in a grid of vertical diptychs. The way they are arranged is left at the discretion of the viewer, who is invited to rearrange them based on personal preference. I see these as generative drawings formed from the permutation of images and in constant change, as they adapt to their viewer’s intentions. Each image is a frozen moment, a fragment of space whose life begins only in the presence of other. The final image I was looking for was not the isolated element but the symbiotic image generated by their combination. I call these drawings “visual haiku” because like a haiku poem they use precisely drawn objects to create an ambiguous, sometimes mysterious image that is both deeply familiar and novel at the same time. And, like haiku poems they relay not on any particular symbolism (literary, religious or otherwise) but on the “irreducible mysteriousness of the images themselves”*. * Robert Hass, “The Essential Haiku”, p. xiv

I am a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the image in an experimental way. This is achieved through a variety of media from site-specific sculptural interventions, to audio-visual objects, drawings, paintings and prints. Current investigations revolve around what is an ‘image’ and how different forms of perception can shape its meaning. Romanian born, with an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an undergraduate degree from the University of Art and Design, Cluj, Romania, I live and work in San Francisco and Rome. My work has been exhibited in international museums and galleries including: Palazzo Correr, Venice, Italy; Caixa-Ourense, Spain; Modern Art Gallery, Miskolc, Hungary; Southern Exposure, San Francisco; National Art Museum, Cluj, Romania. She is the recipient of many grants and awards among which a Fulbright Fellowship for study in the United States.
