About The Artwork

Full-sized replica of the façade and garden of a 1950s American suburban home complete with a replica 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. American Dream is a work conceived as a response to, and comment on, the current crises of capitalism and our consumptiondriven society. The work looks back to the seductive beginnings of the new, suburban, consumerist revolution that now dominates western societies and continues to expand globally.

I was born in Surrey and moved to Cornwall from in 1984 when offered a lecturing post at Falmouth College of Art. I subsequently established a Fine Art Degree course at Cornwall College. I now spends the majority of his time in the studio making large-scale installation pieces, which explore our relationships to places and environments within social and political contexts. In 2009, along with two other artists, I established the artist-led project space - Back Lane West - which, through a residency programme, offers national and international artists the opportunity of developing new work in the context of a work and exhibition space in Cornwall.
