About The Artwork
Thinking about Nature is part of my wire Tapestry Series that began in 2021 after sheltering in place. During that time at home my garden became a big part of my focus and this is an abstract interpretation of natural forms with earth colors. I was interested in trying to create a balance between the imagery filled spaces and the open spaces- just like life and our new awareness of spacial relationships. My technique is digital images, printed on transparency, hand-stitched to wire, hung with straight pins so the work seems to float on the wall.

Gwen Samuels is an installation artist based in Los Angeles with a studio in Santa Monica. Inspired by close observations of her surroundings, she has sculpted the reformatted shape of animals, insects and dresses with delicate hand-stitching and free hanging strings. She also expresses her imagery in textile, cultures, travel and architecture often with repeated patterns and irregular shapes. Her work has been represented in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
