About The Artwork

It was a game that I often played as a child. I isolated myself from my playmates to think and....I would catch the light. That small ray of light was my favorite game, I could do it all by myself. Already then I understood that only when I was alone I could think of what I wanted. To grasp in my hand all that was ungraspable, the wind, feelings, time...time...slowing it down but unable to stop it. The allure of a man is his fragility. Every moment could be the last. Nothing stops all goes on. This moment will not return, exactly like...this slice of light that plays in my hand...

Live and work in Olbia. Dedicated to sculpture since the mid 80's, research that I began in my adolescent years. My artistic trajectory has always been characterized by a uncorrectable discontinuity motivated by my strong sensitivity for all of life's events. Life, as is, a thin and fragile thread....a thread that is often a reoccurring theme in my work. Cotton thread, oscillates in a precarious equilibrium between dream and reality; Copper thread, drawing daring plots on the canvass of life; Iron thread, creates tangled webs that projects a grid of shadows on silent faces that observe passing time. Double thread however is what ties me to my painting, photography and video art. In some my work, I explore daily life evolving at an accelerated pace that relegates man in a melancholy solitude, a sort of human saddening, that appears in the work of many contemporary artists. This way, through a train or taxi window I observe the daily frenetic behavior and try to stare at the vision of a moment that quickly disappears...Lucia Balzano
