'Himalaya I' is woven from an old (1980s) walking map of the area north of Kathmandu that I found in an antique shop. The map immediately spoke to me - its colour and the pattern the contours made, mapping the altitudes of the area. I like to think it was in Nepal once or more, and walked many trails. What a story it would tell. By weaving the map into this piece I've given it longevity and another life. The contours have been abstracted and now form a beautiful interlacing of lines across the surface, contrasting with the lively raffia threads that are woven across its surface.

Veronica is a textile artist specialising in weave. With a passion for reusing and recycling waste and a perceptive sense of colour and textural combination, Veronica uses materials such as newspaper, vintage maps and cassette tape to create wall-hangings and panels. These make tactile and beguiling, quietly powerful additions to any interior. With materiality as a starting point, Veronica gives value and meaning to the apparently worthless and waste materials. Depth and character are created in the weave using structural effects and floating threads. Reacting to the material and its provenance, Veronica exposes its essence through the subtle combination of texture, colour and pattern. "Weaving is a metaphor. Textiles are a metaphor. Their impermanence reflects the transient nature of remembered events, experiences and emotions."
