Nicola Tucker, Conflict & War Artist, is a graduate with honours in Art and Aesthetics and has taught English and Communication studies for 20 years to post 16 students. The UK Outreach Representative for the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, L.A., Nicola is known for her mediation work and highly respected within many communities, both locally and globally. Her expert knowledge has enabled her to act as an advisor, curator and participant of a number of holocaust exhibitions in her home country of Wales, London, other parts of Europe, and America over the past five years. Nicola's extensive knowledge and interest in conflict, trauma and art, coupled with her wide-ranging research and charitable engagement in war zones, has played a significant part in the development of her art work. Tucker's solo(2000) exhibition "˜The Gift' showed a collection of drawings and paintings recounting her journey in Ethiopia during the war of 1992-93 and the people she met and travelled with. Another moving account created by the artist consists of a photographic series of images taken from a child's perspective of her journey from the family home in Krakow to the concentration camp in Auschwitz. Previously Nicola travelled with the Foreign Legion into remote areas throughout North Africa, including Eritrea and Somalia, locating and helping people who had been shot or had become disfigured due to the conflict. She established, maintained and registered a clinic designed to aid people injured and maimed by landmines. Her work with critically injured people in remote areas was recognized by the Foreign Legion and she was awarded their "˜Medal for Bravery(1993) Tucker's current exhibition bears witness to a range of human traumas.
