About The Artwork

Refers to an event where I lost something on Worthing seafront and tried to search for it but was lost forever, bringing me great sadness I have used an upside down boat shape and stormy elements as a metaphor of a shipwreck. Because in a shipwreck, things are lost, and I felt emotional turmoil which felt like a storm within me. Within the boat shape, you can see five buried bright colours -ochre, green, red, yellow and blue, this refers to the photos I lost. You can also make out glimpses of buildings at the bottom, referring to Worthing seafront. On the left, the painting comes out like a relief, as a rectangle, this refers to a standing body -myself, as the underlying theme in the painting is a very psychological human one, about human sadness and loss.

Statement Tutored by the highly acclaimed Stewart Geddes and Stass Paraskos. My atmospheric abstractions portray experiences in places (landscapes and interiors) in an aesthetic way. Experiences in Cyprus, Rome, Scottish Highlands, Wales, Worthing Coast (where I live) and my home interior have provided fantastic inspiration. Urban and natural places both entice me. I'm visually captivated by nature, urban/ natural colours, ruins, architecture, historical art/ artefacts, graffiti and weathered walls in places. A place's history, weather, atmosphere and my emotions also influence my work. That inspiration from a place, determines specific colours, visual effects, moods, shapes and textures, which I improvise with and enjoy for their own sake. I love paint- layering, exploring textures, excavating, collaging and incising it in my relic/organic-like acrylic works, on thick archival papers. It's a fascinating adventure seeing my paintings evolve an independent life/ history of their own, yet still evoking a sense of place.
