About The Artwork

About this work: This title came to me stream of consciousness at 2am. These are my notes: Blaze: fire, bright, wild, strong. But also To blaze, To shine, to burn bright, to be the first, to light the way for others. To blaze a trail... And to do so with only the guidance of our imperfect memories. We are human, our humanity has limits. Our memories are never completely true, but that doesn't make them false. At best, they are simply incomplete, as our minds can't possibly take in everything everywhere all the time... There's a sense of nostalgia in that, the time behind us... We probably missed some of the good parts, but we also skipped some of the bad. With only our imperfect memories to guide us as we blaze, we are forced to work with what we have, and to accept that we only know what we know, and that that is enough to love forward... In other words, we are exactly where we are meant to be. Self-taught artist Linds Miyo is a Canadian abstract painter. Born and raised in California, her work strives to evoke the strong, direct light of her childhood. A trauma survivor, Linds is interested in the balance between intention and that which is beyond our control, the meeting place between our best efforts and happenstance. She often uses broad representational panes of textured black in her work, washing layers of colour over top - folding the dark relief of the past into multi-dimensional present-day, with honesty, intimacy, and happiness.
