ART PROJECTS Gods & Dolls -I had an exhibition of my sculptures in New York An installation meant to signify the various roles that women play in today's Indian society, and simultaneously explore the contradictions between the importance given to women in Hindu mythology and the harsh ground realities faced by the oft-oppressed Indian woman. The three roles depicted are a rural bride, an aristocratic housewife and a working woman. Glimpses - 2013 : Celebration of 100 years of Indian Cinema I am working on 200 digital paintings which will be launched next month. Beginning my POP ART collection, my first piece is a celebration of Womanhood. "Proud to be a woman" A century of Indian cinema is a moment of national pride and nostalgia. From black and white classics to the fun and frolic of the sixties, from the advent of the angry young man to the reinvention of romance in the nineties, what inspires me are the enigmatic faces, characters and stories immortalized by filmmakers through the century. These tales have always transported me into a colourful world of fantasy and alternate reality, made me laugh and cry and been wonderful companions for hours on end. As an artist, filmmaker and graphic designer, this is my small way of paying tribute to these 100 brilliant years of artistic expression. Combining stark features of iconic faces and persona with millions of hues, I bring you "Glimpses - 100 years of Indian Cinema" MY STORY SO FAR Born in Kolkata in a humble environment, I have always found ways to express myself. In the early years of schooling at Ashok Hall Girls School, scholastics took a backseat to Sports, Arts & Crafts and Friends. I did, however, take a keen interest in computer science, in particular, the world of graphics and web design. A web designing job at Iris Communications, while I was still in college, truly began my career. A move to Mumbai was next, as were two jobs simultaneously - a senior web designer at the Times of India and a job with Film publicity Design (Rahul Nanda). The entrepreneur in me took over at this point, and I gave up the safety of these jobs to start a small web development company, Techshastra (I) Pvt Ltd, with my business partner, Nishith Shah.
