Teaching my art students about the Dutch 17th century brought to renewed attention the Dutch love for tulips and trade. Most important and loved back then were the ones which showed crazy color shifts, flames and deformities, later on discovered as being the results of certain viruses which nowadays would ruin complete harvests of bulbous flowers. I was again amazed at the wondrous tulips in the famous 17th century Dutch still life flower paintings and decided to bring them back as modern renderings in acrylics; inspired by the glorious flowers from the Dutch golden age of painting; the contemporary tulips which are grown very near my home; and a great deal of fantasy from myself. These are the flowers I would love to hold and cherish. Now available in two versions, as triplets and as unique flowers in the style of 17th century Dutch tiles ( in which two tiles combine into one flower). I hope you will enjoy them as much as I enjoy painting them!
