About The Artwork

This work is currently listed Not For Sale. Please inquire directly with me regarding the purchase of this work via my website, tudyk.com. Thank you. “Untitled Work in Paper, Marfa,” takes inspiration from handwritten correspondence (a folded letter). At the end of 2014, I went on a solo month-long journey to the little West Texas town of Marfa, with a seed of handwriting inspiration and a love of letter-writing in hand. The stark, bare landscape and the influence of minimal art on the town made a big impression on me. Specifically, the concrete works by Donald Judd (room-sized open concrete boxes) changed the way I was looking at my own ideas. I imagined my letters as architectural structures that could be experienced at new levels of physicality and scale. The base of the composition contains subtle white on white mark-making (pastel) that can be seen close up, and when the light hits the artwork at an angle. A detail photograph of this can be seen on my website: http://www.tudyk.com/papermarks/. The artwork is acrylic, gouache, and pastel on heavy weight Strathmore paper, professionally framed (worth $800). In keeping with the style of the artwork, the frame is simple and modern. The frame’s finish is satin nickel (warm silver color), 7/8” width around and a depth of 1.25”, with high-quality, non-glare museum glass. Wired and ready to hang. Artwork will ship in a protective custom crate; the shipping cost reflects size and weight.
