About The Artwork

This painting was a finalist in the worldwide 2015 "Art Gemini Prize", very proud moment for myself. This is entitled African Violet , this shows an African lady in all her regalia , I feel this world would be worse off with people of colour as there seem to wear the brightest colours and the world seems better and happy for it. Well thats what I believe; I have photographed it minus the resin which will enhance all the bright colours making this double the viewing experience as it only enhances the colours. If I took a picture with the resin on it would leave reflections as it acts like glass. Here are a few facts about Africans: The population of Africa is incredibly diverse, made up of innumerable tribes and people of many social and ethnic groups. Some of these groups are made up of just a few thousand people while others consist of millions of people. Each group usually has its own language and culture. Many African countries have numerous tribes within their borders. For example there are more than thirty tribes within Uganda. This is painted in acrylics and encased in resin all the way around to give the colours more depth as acrylics tend to go "flat" when there dry. This can hang straight to wall as the edges are painted on this high quality stretched canvas. Thanks for viewing my art, Edwin.

Edwin Barrington Lue-Shing Painter Born England 1962 Resides and works in London. Email: Edwin_lue_shing@hotmail.com Artist Statement: Reflections of the 21st century "I aim to capture a frozen moment beyond the frame and to Use colour to unlock the sub-conscious of the character. The colour I use to express Emotional issues and problems of the character, I also try to acquire the spiritual And personal expression for each portrait I do. " Minority females are a major theme of my paintings. I am especially fond of the term "Less is more": a means through which I believe can thoroughly and delicately Express my feelings. About my subject. I stress careful depiction of my characters' Eyes and form, because I feel that eyes and the body vividly and truly reflect a Human being's soul. Characters in my work are often quiet and melancholy, a feeling Projected by the purples or red, pink backgrounds. I try to pass my feelings of the Subject through the tones of colour. I try to take out all detail and leave behind what I Believe is the essential soul of what makes that person who there are. I invite you to take a look and I would love to hear your views, just go to the feedback Below and leave your comments, thank you for viewing. Edwin
