“Afternoon, Cala Molto” is an original oil on canvas, painted on high quality Jacksons canvas and is ready to hang. Although some areas of the painting are highly detailed and intricately painted, others are painted more loosely with a large brush, especially the top area with the surface reflections and the marks are more gestural. I painted it in response to a recent trip to northern Mallorca in the Mediterranean where I spent time underwater in some of the most beautiful coves of the area. While the title alludes to a particular place, my aim with this painting was to recreate the feeling I had when I was there. I also wanted to create some dynamism in the painting with the interplay of the two figures and the light bouncing off the bottom of the sea floor in the beautiful turquoise waters of this part of the world. This painting makes me feel so tranquil and takes me straight back to that moment, basking in warm water under sunlight where is all is well with the world.
