About The Artwork

African Sunset painting with a full moon glowing upon the beautiful African landscape. This painting is inspired by my personal connection and appreciation with the Zulu people of South Africa. I have called this painting in 'Amanzi Inyanga' in Zulu which means 'Water Moon.' The hues of deep orange, red and the richness of gold, reflecting the beautiful African sunsets. The x2 Zulu women are carrying the water upon their heads with clay pots and the front figure has traditional colourful Zulu print on her clothing. The women behind depicts the maternity and matriarchal strength of the women of Mama Africa. This painting is to experience for the viewer, the feeling of being moved by the majestic beauty of mother Africa, appreciating the warmth of the African sunset and traditional Zulu culture.

I am a South African artist who draws inspiration from the diverse and vibrant beauty of Africa. My paintings capture the essence of the African landscape, the majestic animals, the rich culture of the Zulu people, and the stunning sunrises and sunsets. I am also passionate about nature conservation and free diving, which allow me to explore and appreciate the wonders of the ocean and its marine life. My paintings are a reflection of my intuition and emotion in the moment. I aim to connect with the viewer and evoke their emotions through the colours, shapes, and textures of my paintings. This is the alchemy process of my creative process. I also love to travel and immerse myself in different cultures, landscapes, and beauty around the world. This enriches my perspective and sparks my creative inspiration. I am influenced by Eastern philosophy and Buddhism, which provide a thread of harmony and balance in my paintings. I paint in a present meditative state, where I feel one with the canvas and the paint. I am an artist who also specializes in sumi-e, the art of Japanese ink painting. I have always been fascinated by the beauty and simplicity of sumi-e, which captures the essence of nature with just black ink and white space. My interest in sumi-e was sparked by my study of fashion design, where I learned to appreciate the harmony of colours, shapes, and textures. I had the opportunity to deepen my knowledge and skills in sumi-e when I attended a Buddhist retreat, where I studied under a master of Japanese sumi-e art. There, I learned to use the brush with confidence and grace, and to express my emotions and thoughts through my paintings. My sumi-e artworks reflect my personal style and vision, as well as my respect for the tradition and philosophy of this ancient art form. Some of the artists who have influenced my style and vision are Picasso, Claude Monet, Klimt, Degas, Van Gogh, and Dali. I admire their originality, expression, and mastery of their craft. I aspire to create artworks that are unique, meaningful, and captivating.
