My painting “Arachne” was inspired in part by an ancient myth. In Greco-Roman mythology, Arachne was a great mortal weaver who boasted that her skill was greater than that of Athena, goddess of wisdom, weaving, and strategy. Arachne refused to acknowledge that her knowledge came, in part at least, from the goddess. Offended by Arachne's arrogance, Athena ultimately turned Arachne into a spider. After watching a very impressive show in “Crazy Horse” cabaret in Las Vegas, where a beautiful girl was performing on the free-hanging ropes, I decided to combine both the myth and the reality in this particular art piece.

I am a Russian - German - American Artist currently residing in Southern California. I find my inspiration in the world around me and in my loved one. I do not usually follow the same style in all of my artworks and while some of my paintings just depict the beauty of the real world around me, the others are more about telling different imaginary stories and revealing unusual characters and situations. My diptychs and triptychs are more like visual stories where the presentations from different perspectives depict common and not so common situations and circumstances. Such an artistic trick allows me not just to tell a certain story, but it also turns a 2D image into something similar to 3D object thus greatly expanding viewers’ visual experience and further stimulating their imagination.
