About The Artwork
This painting was inspired my my working process which removes distinctions between low and high art. Focusing on the Ancient Greeks and their worship of Dionysus I was inspired by the grouping of three reference images of ancient terra cotta pottery painting hanging on my wall to create this scene of an archeological discovery. The pieces are not rendered as dimensional, rather as sheets of paper, uncovered. Questioning how we relate to the past and in what form we experience, wether through second hand images or first hand knowledge.
