Backstage Painting

I started sketching this work after visiting a live theater backstage in New York. There were so many versions of this until I finally decided that I wanted to represent my alter ego; which is a dancer who lives in the streets of Istanbul, struggling to find make a living but still has a color of life. I feel like this work represents a version of me, a version that lives in my dreams but somehow lives on the canvas... I hope you feel the sense that we all get ready as we all enter the stage called this life. We all dress up, we all brush our hair or put make up on, or more specifically, we all have facades that we show to others or keep secret to ourselves. This work represents the fact that as we all enter the stage of life, we all need to get ready for the battle and put on our battle suit, whatever that is for each of us...
