About The Artwork

This painting is textured with a distressed base of gesso, giving it a battered weathered look, several layers of paint make up this work. It had to hang on a wall for a month before I could approve it. It also comes with hanging hardware. I like to read books about Vikings & English history. I always liked the banners or flags that were carried in European battles hundreds of years ago. This is my impression of what one of those banners would have looked like on canvas. My hope is that the viewer will be able to appreciate this vision & look into the past.

I was born in South Texas, where I have spent my life exploring the outdoors. My favorite classes in school were always art classes, wood shop metal shop etc. I loved to draw comics from the newspaper when I was young. I started exploring digital art on my computer & this led to works on canvas, which I began in 2012. It brings me great joy & happiness when I am working in my studio & am able to focus completely on the possibilities that artistic creation provide. I have been told I am slightly disorganized, a "dreamer". I'm a person who focuses on the end result rather than the immediate task at hand. I have always been creative and spontaneous, if not lacking in direction & focus. I'm a learner who is generally patient and a person for whom time is an ally, not an enemy. Painting for me is a journey. I try to keep my mind open as I paint, relying on images that come to me during the process. Although I do have preconceived ideas, the process is spontaneous. I'm intrigued by geometric shapes, stars, planets and seascapes. Patterns revealed in life are often reflected back to the canvas through the colored filter of memory, in a meditative process where form battles expression for dominance.
