About The Artwork

This work is a delicate depiction of child birth, or of the creation of something new through the hands of the artist. The artist/mother molds the baby and gives it substance from her own body. The painting is made on white sturdy paper with canvas structure. At areas low left and top right I used silver acrylic paint which even though almost invisible, it changes when one moves, from shiny to shadowy. This occurs ever so slightly but still adds to the dreamy feel of the painting. It would be good to frame the painting behind glass. This work is thematically connected to earlier paintings called (or about) Statues; there are a few full color paintings on canvas on this theme and a series of small paintings on black canvas.

S. Kapnissi is a dedicated painter, focused on the truth that painting can reveal and thus give a life purpose to people; just like the sunshine does and the warmth of a real home. "My paintings depict the intensity of life; bright colors or black and white, abstract or figurative, my images point at Life and at our humanity that we evoke through beauty." S. Kapnissi (Athens, 1966) studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University in Greece and at the Free Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague, the Netherlands; for a period as a NUFFIC grantee. She is founding member of the Gaidaro group which from 1999-2008 presented projects advocating for wide participation in the art practice and presentation. Painting is her main activity which often expands to engraving, textile, video and text. Website: atelierkapnos.com
