About The Artwork
I recently rediscovered this really old painting mine. It shows a dream, a nightmare. The style reflects what I did at the time, traditional folk art flowers and floral decorations. I had completely forgotten about it! The painting leads me back into a mysterious world of greys and blues and a beautiful comforting elephant. I like it because it feels so timeless, and it is so full of symbols. I love the detail of the woman's feet growing roots - she is part human part plant. I painted in September 1980 so I might even discover the dream in my old dream diaries.

I am a self-taught artist. I am interested in fairy tales and ancient myths. I explore displacement, identity construction, layers of history and memory. I enjoy working with images from dreams and nightmares. Presently I work on the ‘From Line to Colour’ project - where I explore the pleasure of colour and line, moving into surrealist automatism which is surprisingly structured when focussing on dreams. Recent work: “Floating Islands”. Refugees and displaced people become 'floating islands' in our time - cut off from what they knew and loved. "Longing for HomeS Project" consists of' a collection of photo and poetry' books on the subject of where is my ‘Home’. In nine publications combining painting, drawing and writing I explore my own feelings of ‘belonging’ within three European countries. I also write poetry, feminist romantic novels and utopian -distopian texts I often move between art forms.
