About The Artwork

There is poignant and genuine beauty in sadness. Women best capture sadness. Women in cafe, from all walks of life, alone or with others - their expressions and emotions overt or cached intrigued me all my life - ever since I discovered the life long love for cafes as the third place for my life. We live in the technologically driven world of self-imposed isolation amidst crowd. We escape our daily grind at home and work to that third place of respite and escape. Cafes thru out the world have become a place where we float fleeing from the pressing reality - a stolen time for ourselves. We reveal our true state of mind there with a cup of something in our hands, in a safe distance amidst other souls pretending to be unaware of our presence. This modern human social evolution and phenomenon intrigues me and I hope to capture glimpses of our state of being in those moments in life.

Gina has always been artistically inclined since her childhood, winning awards in her early formative years (e.g. the National Artistic Gold Key award in high school). She has taken art throughout her education. Being romantic at heart, she is deeply influenced by the 19th C. Impressionism masters such as Renoir and Degas, Monet and their depictions of femeninity. As a perpetual dreamer, she endeavors to paint the beauty of human connections, shared affinity, positive and in hopeful messages of love and a life-well-lived in her paintings.
