Blue Sneakers Painting

Painting was inspired by Nike sneakers and pattern from skirt. The skirt was brought by my grandfather from his trip to India in '80, few years before I was born. My mom used to wear it during communism, it was very visible on gray, boring streets, it seemed to be very colorful compared to clothes that were available in shops. Pattern was made with wooden blocks by hand, colors are still alive. Textile pattern is compared with Nike sneakers. Those two things have few things in common. They are connected to fashion, they bring or brought colors on the street, they were/are desired by people and for many they were/are unobtainable what is significant. They were made far away from the place in which they were/are used. And the last point makes in fact the biggest difference in the way we perceive them. Being from India was making the skirt more attractive, it was something rare, unconventional. For sneakers it is not an advantage, consumers do not want to think about places in which thinks were made, some far away places are outside consumers perception. I'm not trying to judge consumers, companies or market I'm just asking about huge differences in such similar objects. It is also a question about the way that consumers changed in this short period in central Europe.
