Church of the Holy Trinity – Fleet in Dorset, mixed media on paper 38 x 27 mm. Framed under glass in white limed natural hardwood frame 14″ x 18″ with Pale Ivory mount. The ‘New’ church at Fleet, built further up the hill after the old one was destroyed by a flood when the sea burst through Chesil Beach in the Great Storm of 1824.

Biography Born 1946 and raised in Birmingham Charles spent most of his working life as an Engineer in the automotive and aerospace industries. Having always an interest in art, it was not until 2000 that he took up painting, completing a Diploma in Art and Design at UCE Bourneville Birmingham in 2004 (now Birmingham City University www.bcu.ac.uk/ specializing in Fine Art Printmaking. Whilst in Birmingham he regularly exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, the Water Orton, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield art societies. Since moving to Weymouth in 2005 Charles, who paints in oils, acrylics and mixed media, has focused his work on Dorset’s Jurassic coastline and is a member of: Weymouth Art Group & Artwey CIC (a group of artists who combine to organize exhibitions and promote the arts around the South Dorset area). Charles has also gained a BA (Hons) Painting degree with the Open College of Arts. www.oca.ac.uk/ Charles is very much influenced by the artistic visual language of landscape; in the form of late Romanticism, Impressionism & post-Impressionism and the Neo-Romantics; “I find myself particularly drawn to the mysterious quality of seclusion and secret places while striving to evoke a sense of ‘time and place”.
