About The Artwork
I imagined the portrait of Emil Cioran, one of my favorite authors, starting from an old photograph of him. I intended to capture his expression of indulgent disappointment towards the world. The background is a map of Paris, the city that he loved enormously and that he walked through on nights of devastating insomnia and creative stirrings. I interspersed the city map with the physiognomic features of the philosopher so that the streets become wrinkles and thoughts.

He is an admirer of the great masters but also of Surrealism and his work combines magical realism and post-conceptual themes. His eclectic sources of inspiration include mythology, religions, philosophy, literature and science. His work has become part of private collections across the world.
