About The Artwork
I live in rural Scotland and my studio is an old barn. The farmer breeds beautiful prizewinning Clydesdale horses, and I follow these foals as they are born and grow from year to year. This is a young filly named "Melanie", leaping with excitement at a special visitor to her paddock. When Clydesdale horses reach maturity they are much more placid! I have looked very carefully at the anatomy of the hindquarters and back legs to establish them properly in the painting. I am interested in anatomy and how it underlies the external appearance of the subject. Once I understand this I am able to let go and work more freely. I hope that viewers will enjoy the exuberance of the horse and her expressive nature.

I have been an artist all my life. I was brought up in a London family of fine art and antique dealers who taught me about art and encouraged my creativity from an early age. I love traditional drawing and painting but I also like to experiment and push my art into new abstract forms. I have studied both classical and conceptual art at art institutions and in masterclasses with established figurative and abstract artists. I am now finding my own voice towards abstraction. Horses are a constant inspiration and catalyst for me. As for many artists, their sculptural form and beauty is greatly compelling, and for me horses symbolise something that is potent and unspoken.
