About The Artwork

'Coffee and Donuts' is an original oil painting featuring a food van at a music festival. There is something comforting and nostalgic about the glow of a coffee van across a dimly lit muddy field. My festival paintings depict such moments in time, lights flickering and daylight fading as festival goers meander back to their campsites in the gathering darkness. I wanted to translate some of this emotional response into my painting, and while there is a foundation of realism, I’m also hoping there is a little bit of festival magic captured in this painting. 8x10 inches, oil on paper. Unframed. Signed and tilted.

Bio: Imogen Hawgood is a UK based artist and illustrator, trained in Illustration at Norwich University of the Arts, where she graduated in 2020. Working with oil paints, her recent work has been inspired by trips to California, where she became fascinated by the iconography of the American West. She has exhibited across the UK, as well as internationally. This includes exhibitions with the New Light art prize at Scarborough Art Gallery, the Society of Women Artists and ING Discerning Eye exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London, and a duo-show with artist and musician Horace Panter at According to McGee Gallery in York.  Artist Statement: I live and work in the English countryside, however it was a visit to Los Angeles which has had the most influence on my work. I became fascinated by the dramatic neon marquees of movie theatres and huge outlandish signs which adorn the building facades along Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip. This interest has developed into a collection of hyper realistic oil paintings of cinemas and classic neon Americana from across California.  While there is a foundation of realism within my work, I am most interested in creating an image which seems like a moment in time, highlighting the quiet beauty of the scenes which I depict.
