About The Artwork

This picture is included in the series of artworks "Pathos of the Bureaucracy". This is my humorous reaction to the bureaucracy. So often we come across unnecessary laws that say that you need to take permission from someone, and you run from one agency to another, and then notice that part of life has passed.. In the picture, the cancer writes a collective letter to the slug. Butterfly, worm, phone, roses, spider, bee are a collective.

100x100cm/ oil on canvas/2017

Anastasiia Grygorieva's "Pathos of the Bureaucracy" series of paintings that explores the themes of power, authority, and bureaucracy through a satirical lens. In this series, Grygorieva depicts animated objects and earthly living creatures with which she shows fictional bureaucrats in various humorous and absurd situations, using a surreal style. Some of the paintings also incorporate text or handwritten script, adding another layer of humor and commentary.

The paintings in this series often feature exaggerated physical characteristics, such as eyes at the phone or at the skull, cancer writing a letter, smoking fish, which serve to heighten the sense of absurdity and exaggeration.

Overall, "Pathos of the Bureaucracy" can be seen as a commentary on the role of bureaucracy in contemporary society, and a playful critique of the often absurd and surreal nature of power dynamics.

One interesting aspect of Grygorieva's approach is the way she combines a kind of whimsical playfulness with a darker, more biting critique of the power structures she is satirizing. This creates a tension between the often humorous subject matter and the serious themes underlying it.

Overall, the "Pathos of the Bureaucracy" collection is an engaging and thought-provoking body of work that offers a unique perspective on the role of power and authority in modern society.
