My work seems to take forever as I mostly use transparent oil colors which take their good old time to dry as I do no use additives or driers that will ultimately cause the image to fade. Some of these images seem simple to produce but are the result of years and years of drawing and exercising that most unusual facility, namely the wisdom of when to just stop working on a piece. That seems to be the case here, as I really don't want to muck up a believable image. Painting is an anachronism in that we are used to portrayals of visual energy and space concocted out of bits of electronic tomfoolery, and I am just plain addicted to the smell of terps and pigment suspended in clear oils. Well too bad, but as a reward for my curmudgeonly attitude, something good comes and goes in a flash if it even bothers to come around at all—well here is one some such snap caught within the four corners of the geodetic palindrome I am used to calling my imagination.

There is a lot of amazing and beautiful work posted on this Saatchi Web Gallery, and I am happy to have my work on view here. I am one of those humans that have an ingrained, physical need to make images. Luckily I had a wise mother and encouraging teachers who recognized that aspect of my personality and helped me realize my early dreams of becoming a professional artist. After graduating from Pratt Institute with a degree in fine art and art education, and in order to make ends meet, I pursued and built a fascinating career as a graphic designer which also included a simultaneous career as a design instructor those gigs lasted for almost fifty years. Just to stop and note, Pratt was a Bauhaus oriented art school, where the spirit of Modernism took front rank, and where I learned to peer into many disciplines painting, photography, sculpture, industrial design, typography, and where I also developed and learned to nurture a great love and admiration for architecture and art history. The work seen here was mostly created during the past seven years—some of the pieces are decades older. At the time of this writing there are 130 or so images. There are many more pieces to be posted including paintings, sculpture, assemblages, drawings, and photographs, with new work occurring all the time.
