'Confession' Painting

'Confession' was created at a point where I had just begun to question my religious identity. Catholicism has historically given very little room to women to express their faith and also live freely. Reading 'Confession' from the bottom up is essential: on the bottom left, life model Sofia adopts a worshipper pose, with her chest tucked to her knees and her head bowed. The next figure, Phoebe, is still tied by her faith, as showed by her bound hands and leaning posture, but sits on a chair rather than the floor. Her head streams off into a cloud of free thought, The third figure, which is a combination of both Phoebe and Sofia's poses, has its back turned and stands defiantly. 'Confession' to me reflects the current change in religious art from iconography to criticism that is taking over the Catholic Church. This work was made using high quality Daler-Rowney acrylic paint and will be delivered in a packaging tube without the original woodwork so that the buyer gets final say on how it will be hung.
