Conrad Painting

I am fascinated by memory and remembering and my work is painted from memory without the aid of photographs or sketches. I am specifically interested in how and what we remember from situations, events, places and people – especially people’s faces. My intention is to capture the remembered image and show how memory can be imperfect with its distortions, deletions, and exaggerations. My work is drawn from the street, people, communities and social spaces; often capturing a fleeting memory of a passer-by. I use painting as my primary medium, exploring monochrome and limited palettes. I use mixed media in a range of techniques from impasto, layering and the use of mediums to build up the image. By working quickly, I am able to retain the impression of the memory through a raw, unfinished artwork. The imperfect memory is what I explore in my art, in stark contrast to the world of social media, celebrity lifestyle, and aspiration. I hold an MA in Fine Art and exhibit in London and the South East.
