Nature to me is like a fairy tale, it awakens and provokes our imagination. It is truthful yet deceitful. It is bizarre and extraordinary. I zoom in through a photographic lens, capturing microscopic elements; the tepal of a grevillea or the tentacles of a sea anemone. Simultaneously there is a physical process of collecting happening in nature and at second-hand shops, gathering and categorising organic, textile and unique objects. These acts are essential to the creation of my creatures. The collected segments of nature and found objects are stitched and glued together, with attention to detail, creating a creature of the unknown that retains the truth of nature. My Creatures bring to life my un-real world of wonder. They transform my fairy tale into reality. They allow me to create my own weirdness yet still convey my obsession with the truth of nature. They go beyond the beauty of flora and fauna. They have become my new dream world.
