VIEW IN MY ROOM
Mexico
Painting, Acrylic on Other
Size: 37 W x 33 H x 1 D in
Ships in a Crate
This is an impressionistic view from a Mexican mirador looking outward over walls and gardens into the last rays of the setting sun. One can see the southern crescent moon to the left. In the fore la mesa (table) is set with un mantel de encaje (tablecloth of Mexican lace), and copas azules (blue glasses). The resident gato (cat) waits on the wall for the occupants to join him for their noche vino tinto (evening red wine). This painting crepusculo (twilight) offers a glimpse into the Mexican landscape and the beauty of old walled gardens-and Mexican culture. The warmth of the soft light is welcoming the viewer to share in one of my favourite tmies of the day.

I am a self- taught intuitive artist, painting almost exclusively in acrylics. I love the vividness and dynamics of playing with contrasting color/light emanating from darkness, once likened to the reflection of stained glass. My subject matter is reflective of my immediate world, or the experience of life as I have observed it. It is often nature inspired and psychologically based. I place great emphasis on the beauty of life, not its illusive qualities. The love of playing with paint, splashing color, and following where it leads, is my greatest passion-whether it be through a painting-layering colour on floors, doors, walls and or playing with textures-sand, pebbles, mixed media-using brush sponge bristles fingers, palette knife etc My process begins with meditation and following my brush where it leads using an umber wash -there is no plan -though in some instances the subject has been intuited through words,-IE.my husbands poetry My actual pursuit of painting began after a self discovery retreat -where we were given a series of exercises related to discovering our life's passion or purpose. The answer I received three times was play with paint- After returning home, I was invited by a family friend -who was an artist-to visit an informal workshop she put together called- Playing with Paint- This was too synchronistic to pass up- And so whether it be a quest, journey, or some process of personal healing my art has been given as guidance that I follow, and continue to share with others. My paintings tend to find their perfect homes-People have been drawn to what resonates within-themselves.
