About The Artwork

“Distant Early Warning” is one of my earliest works, created in 2021 in my new studio here in New Orleans. Acrylic, oil pastels and colored pencils on stretched canvas and ready to hang. This painting has been many different things before I decided that it was finished, but is a painting ever really ‘finished’? This work is one of my all-time favorites, of all my creations. Title of the painting is from a song by the Canadian band RUSH. “Distant Early Warning" was written about the loneliness of someone who worked the DEW Line- a system of radar stations in the far northern Arctic region of Canada set up to detect incoming Soviet bombers during the Cold War, and provide early warning of any sea-and-land invasion. This vivid red accent piece will look great anywhere you decide to hang it in your home, business, or office. This unique painting will generate much interest and questions from all who see it…trust me! Signed on the back, several layers of varnish, no frame. Thanks for taking your time to look at my art, I really appreciate it. John

I am an abstract artist based in New Orleans. I am a self-taught painter and I have sold many paintings to collectors from LA to New York and all cities in between. A local bank here in New Orleans just recently purchased ten of my original paintings which now hang in their corporate office. I usually work in acrylic, but more recently have been experimenting with oil pastels, crayons and multi-media objects-like 100+ year old wall paper I found recently at relative's old home in the French Quarter. My current favorite living artist is the Irish painter, Brian Harte. He reminds me of another Irish artist that I love, Francis Bacon. I am also a huge fan of Caravaggio and his use of light, so my tastes are all over the place.. I truly appreciate you taking your time to stop and take a look at my paintings, it means a great deal to me and please send me a message if you ever have any question concerning my artwork. Thanks and take care!
