About The Artwork

On March 24 2020 India was very abruptly put into lockdown due to Covid. The migrant labor force, the daily wage workers who form backbone of the economy lost their jobs and couldn’t afford living in the large metro cities. They were left to fend for themselves. Without any money, with no transport available hordes of them with their families walked 500 kilometers and more to their villages. Many died along the way. This painting is a representation of my emotional response to their plight, my feeling of utter helplessness, all the anger and frustration felt towards the authorities for lack of planning as I watched this saga unfold on television screens and other media outlets.
