About The Artwork
Dry Docked in Mallaig is a photo manipulated digital watercolor of a Scottish fishing boat in a dry dock. The original photograph was taken on a rainy May afternoon in Mallaig, Scotland. The digital painting was started while riding on the train from Fort William to Glasgow during a seven week bike tour thru Scotland and England. The painting was completed while sitting outside a Grass Market cafe below the Edinburgh castle. This digital painting was created using a mix of photo manipulation, digital texture overlays, and filter effects. The manipulated photo was further enhanced by the use of using custom "brushes" controlled by the touchpad on my laptop. I created custom digital brushes to replicating the look of English watercolors used during the late 19th century. The painting is printed on high quality heavy weight rag paper with dark charcoal and maroon matting. The framed is distressed and patinaed wood that provides an aged industrial feel to the artwork.
