Artist's description: Gabriel visits Mary. I have long admired the painting and particularly it's serenity of 'Ecce Ancilla Domini by Dante Gabriel Rossetti but the serenity has always seem misplaced to me. I imagine the young child that Mary was would have been terrified. In this painting The doves are a metaphor for the Angel Gabriel and the feathers flurrying and floating represent the confusion of the frightened Mary. Materials used: Oil on canvas
