Egnifs - Sfinge - oil and acrylic on canvas 80x60cm - 2016 painting The painting is sold with a wooden frame in gold color of about 5 cm, the total size is 70x90 cm. The Sphinx is that mythological being with the body of a lion and the head of a woman who asked questions to those who wanted to proceed further. Egnif is his opposite, he has the head of a lion and the body of a woman and if the Sphinx asks the questions, Egnif gives the answers. On the picture it is written: "Se la Sfinge fa le domande, Egnifs sa le risposte" (If the Sphinx asks the questions, Egnifs knows the answers). My paintings of this period are all executed with overlapping layers of many veils, initially the surface is clear, overlaps of brown glazes arrive to obtain the shading and the color of the skin. Some of my paintings are all done with this technique and only with brown glazes. This technique is taken from fifteenth-century painting and icon painting. The effect is particular. I like to paint the human body, especially the female body, nature has always provided us with the best of what can be an excellent subject. My women with lioness or leopard heads, however felines, are symbolic of the union of the human being as rational, and his animal part, more instinctive, with all the characteristics that follow: sensuality, sexuality, l emotion that our animal part perceives and that our rational part must manage. Inspired by the classics in the polished and refined style of detail, Renaissance painting was perhaps the highest peak of figurative quality even though I do not prefer subjects of that period, often forced by a precise and dominant clientele that left little room for painting. subjects freely chosen by the artists. Then I combine the predilection for the classic fifteenth-century style with a more modern surrealist component in order to free the imagination and compose figurative games where you can insert everything. http://www.michelemaioli.altervista.org/egnifsal.html for information: michelemaioli@hotmail.com web: www.michelemaioli / altervista.org www.michelemaioli / altervista.org/quadri.html info: michelemaioli@hotmail.com web: www.michelemaioli.altervista.org/quadri.html Pisa (Italy)
