Mattia Baldi was born in 1983 in Rome, Italy after the Traditional Artistic High School he took the Academy of Fine Art (110L/110) in Rome. Always interested in toys, monsters and puppets from 80's he have work as painter and illustrator since 1995 and his progression to figurative oil painting have start in 1999. He won with a painting about the masks of the society the M.Moderni Foundation Prize (2002). After 2002 during the Academy he discover photography as a tool for extend his personal research. In 2004 he took a Master degree in Photography at S.R.F. in Rome and since that year he have accomplished several professional photography works also for A.S.I. the Italian Space Agency. He have develop also a deep knowledge of computer image manipulation and in 2004 have partecipate at the collective "Think Art and Digital Image'' in the American Academy in Rome. In 2007 he move to Beijing, China where he finally found the indispensable kind of reality he needed for his work. In this 4 years he is involved in study Taoism and Tibetan rappresentations of the heaven and Gods, currently he have copy, paint and scketch a large number of Tibertan Gods from ancient parchments in temples. He found a convergence between the 80"˜s culture where he grown and the old form of east religions Gods figures. From 2008 he have paint, sculpt and draw a large series of rappresentations extracted from real ancient Tibetan Buddhist parchments, trying to isolate what he feel in those figures, what he feel deeply persistent in his childhood during the 80's. Mattia researches have lead him trough a complex effort in popular cultural archaeology of the 80's world, recently he found one of the first published evidence of catalog of Gods, heroes and mosters from the decade. Was "˜'Deities and Demigods'' for D&D roleplay game, was a ramdom jumble of beliefs from contemporary religions like Hinduism, ancient religions like Egyptian and Norse mythology, and fictional religions like H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. This manual is probably the first who have included so many fantasy figures/aspects under one common reality and perhaps who have created all the 80's imaginary. Right now Mattia is continuing investigate and mix the distort realty of those figures of Gods and monsters from ancient far religions with the colors of a 80's toys and trying to make a point for a whole generation grown with that immense imaginary.
